Health Care Without Harm is an observer to the international plastic treaty negotiations and has participated in all the meetings of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) on Plastic Pollution since 2022. Since the first meeting in Punta del Este, Uruguay, in 2022, our international network has advocated for a treaty that avoids blanket exemptions for the health sector, and embeds human health through the text.
The healthcare sector must move away from unnecessary single-use products and toxic chemicals and become a torchbearer for sustainable supply chains. That means pushing for reusable, non-toxic solutions that save natural resources, reduce waste, and are better for patients, budgets, and the planet.
