The study examined waste management practices during the PMEC in 19 documentation sites representing a wide range of geographic, socioeconomic, and ethnic conditions: wealthy urban enclaves, urban poor (“slum”) communities, rural agricultural areas, very poor remote villages, mountainous and difficult to access places, indigenous communities, coastal regions, islands, as well as areas at high risk due to armed conflict.
